Paul Ibe, a media assistant to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has said that the government of President Bola Tinubu has ignored Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Advisor.
According to the DAILY POST, there has been controversy surrounding the recent nomination of Maj.-Gen. Adeyinka Fadewa (rtd.) as Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Homeland Security.
A number of Nigerians expressed concern that the NSA would be replaced by the Office of Homeland Security, which sparked rumors that there might be conflict between the two.
In response, Ibe claimed in a post on his X on Wednesday that Tinubu and Ribadu were engaged in a confrontation and that the NSA’s office had been subtly ignored.
He connected Ribadu’s recent visit to the US, when the NSA spoke with the US Vice President and other officials, to the purported animosity.
“It is no longer news that NSA Nuhu Ribadu has been quietly sidelined and that a son of the soil, Retired Major General Adeyinka Famadewa, has been appointed in his place as Special Adviser on Homeland Security à la US,” he said.
“A lot of water has flowed under the bridge in making this conclusion, as Mohammed Bello Doka’s article makes clear.
However, rumors suggest that Ribadu’s recent trip to the US, where he met Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance, may have been the last straw. He tried to capitalize on this by getting the news photos published in several newspapers, even though he was fully aware that his principal was unable to travel to the US.
