On Monday, Nkechi Nwogu, a former senator from Abia Central, and Sam Onuigbo, a former member from the Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency, were unable to secure the All Progressive Congress (APC) Senate ticket for Abia Central.
In the primary election, Emeka Atuma defeated them.
After receiving 36,935 votes from six local government areas—Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Ikwuano, Osisioma, Isiala Ngwa North, and Isiala Ngwa South—Atuma, a former member of the House of Representatives, won the primary.
Nkechi Nwogu, a former senator from Abia Central and member of the House of Representatives, received 11,451 votes.
Additionally, Sam Onuigbo, a former Ikwuano/Umuahia member of the House of Representatives for two terms, received 5,833 votes.
Thomas Nkoro, the Collation Officer in Umuahia, declared the outcome of the primary election.
All candidates who took part in the House of Representatives Primary Elections held throughout the state have been notified by the APC Abia State chapter that the National Assembly Primaries Appeal Committee has started meeting to hear their complaints.
The party encouraged candidates to formally file complaints with the committee if they were unhappy or felt wronged by any part of the primary election.
The party claims that Martha Moses, Obioma Madukwe, and Uzoma Ogu will be members of the Abia committee, with Chris Dajan serving as its chairman.
