Sergio Ramos, who was Kylian Mbappé’s teammate at Paris Saint-Germain, has endorsed the Real Madrid player for this year’s Ballon d’Or.
Ramos acknowledged that despite Mbappé not securing major titles this season, he merits the award.
Between 2021 and 2023, the two players played together at the Parc des Princes for two years.
Ramos currently plays for Monterrey in Mexico, while Mbappé has joined another of the defender’s previous clubs, Real Madrid.
Mbappé has secured the Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup in his first season with the La Liga giants.
Having played 56 matches during the campaign, the 26-year-old finished with a record-breaking tally of 43 goals and was awarded the European Golden Shoe.
During a press conference on Monday, Ramos stated: “I [will] always give it to Mbappé.” While it’s an important trophy, the criteria for the Ballon d’Or are always uncertain. “ He scores goals and won the Golden Boot, even though Madrid hasn’t secured other titles that other teams have.
„Es handelt sich um individuelle Auszeichnungen, nicht um kollektive. Dennoch gibt es einige sehr interessante Spieler, die Ligen und Pokale gewonnen haben.“
