Bode George, the former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that the party will not run a Northerner for president in the upcoming general elections in 2027.
At a gathering hosted by the PDP’s Lagos State branch on Thursday to commemorate what they called the party’s revival, George made this statement.
According to the senior statesman, any attempt to do so would be disrespectful to the PDP’s founding fathers.
In addition to expressing sorrow at the party’s defections, the former military governor of Ondo State accused President Bola Tinubu of pressuring PDP governors to join the All Progressives Congress, or APC.
The PDP leader referred to individuals quitting the party to join a coalition as “rolling stones that gather no moss” and said that they would return to the PDP once their objectives were not met.
“There is no possibility that someone from the North will be a member of our party in 2027. It would be disrespectful to the party’s founders, many of whom are now in the afterlife.
“They (those going against the party’s zoning policy) are perpetually dancing on their (the founding fathers) graves because they are being insulted.
“The late Alex Ekwueme contested for the presidential ticket of the PDP but did not win. However, that did not cause him to collapse the party. That is what you call a God-fearing gentleman.
“On those defecting from the PDP to form a coalition, he said: “I have some advice for all those who have broken away and are saying they are going into a coalition to defeat Bola Tinubu.
“I can tell you with confidence that Bola Tinubu and his team are pressuring our governors to join the APC in the interim. But he is not the owner of the power. Please open your eyes, citizens of our nation.
A rolling stone doesn’t collect moss when there are so many people rushing around. They rushed back after trying it once. Their actions are akin to disowning their father’s home.
He said, “Can you go and stay at a tenant’s house and leave your father’s house because it is leaking?”
