Former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, has strongly criticized the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his recent heated confrontation with military personnel in Abuja over a disputed plot of land, which was captured in a video widely shared online.
Buratai denounced Wike’s actions, stating they are more than mere misconduct and constitute a “palpable threat to national security and institutional integrity.” He argued that a minister’s verbal attack on a uniformed military officer undermines the chain of command, shows disrespect for the Commander-in-Chief’s authority, and negatively impacts the morale of the armed forces.
According to Buratai, Wike’s behavior clearly suggests he is “undermining the federal government’s authority.” He called for an immediate and decisive response, urging the Minister to apologize to both President Bola Tinubu and the officer involved, emphasizing that national security must take precedence over “politics of military bashing.”
