Chukwuma and Ogundiran setbacks for Team Nigeria

Due to testing and travel issues, US-based sprinters Rosemary Chukwuma and Blessing Ogundiran are in danger of missing Nigeria’s World Relays 2026 campaign, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

The Botswana National Stadium in Gaborone will host the competition from May 2 to May 3.

Due to uncontrollable circumstances, both athletes were unable to connect with the Nigerian contingent prior to the event.

Ogundiran is still awaiting the results of her SRY gene test, while Chukwuma’s passport reportedly arrived late from an embassy, seriously postponing her travel plans.

In accordance with rules established by World Athletics prior to significant international championships, the test is one of the eligibility requirements pertaining to biological sex verification.

“Blessing Ogundiran and Rosemary Chukwuma are currently out of the World Relays for Nigeria,” Making of Champions’ Christopher Maduewesi wrote from Gaborone on Thursday.

It wasn’t because the athletes didn’t want to come or that the federation didn’t make an effort to get them here, but rather because of uncontrollable circumstances.
