Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, wrote to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) requesting a new date to appear for questioning regarding an alleged $14.8 million fraud.
In the letter, dated November 24 and received by the EFCC on November 26, Sylva stated that planning to declare him wanted was premature and unnecessary.
He explained that he is currently receiving urgent medical treatment for a life-threatening condition.
The former Bayelsa State Governor added that he is consulting his doctors to determine a safe time to temporarily halt treatment and meet with the EFCC.
Sylva wrote: “I humbly request that we set a mutually agreed date, subject to medical clearance, for my physical appearance. I trust that the purpose of your invitation is investigation, not harm, which makes my request reasonable. Only the living can fully and responsibly address an allegation, which I strongly deny.”
Sylva also reminded the EFCC that he complied with a previous invitation in December 2024, gave detailed answers, and was granted administrative bail on self-recognition, with the understanding that he would only be contacted if more details were required.
The EFCC declared Sylva wanted on November 10, 2025, based on a warrant issued by a Federal High Court in Lagos on November 6, 2025.
