The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier Kingsley C. Uwa, urged for a stronger commitment to peace in the Ibi local government area of Taraba State. He warned that security forces will not tolerate actions that could incite violence.
Brigadier Uwa delivered this message on Wednesday at a security meeting held with stakeholders at the Palace of the Chief of Ibi.
He stated the meeting was called to address increased criminal activity and ongoing community tensions affecting multiple local areas.
He criticized recent reports of people preventing farmers from harvesting their crops, calling these actions dangerous provocations that could lead to violent conflicts.
He emphasized that security agencies will now respond firmly to anyone engaging in such behavior.
The Brigade Commander also reminded traditional and community leaders that they are responsible for maintaining peace within their areas, warning that those instigating conflict will face strong action from security forces.
The meeting involved traditional rulers, government officials, community leaders, and representatives from various security agencies.
Discussions focused on threats including criminals entering from nearby states, arguments over farmland, illegal crop harvesting, and unresolved traditional leadership issues in Dampar, Tapga, Sarkin Kudu, and Gidan Kiye.
