Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that it has transformed into a sanctuary for individuals evading the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Lawal made this declaration during the African Democratic Congress (ADC) stakeholders’ meeting in Yola, Adamawa State. He is currently the National Vice Chairman of the ADC and projected that both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would face defeat in the 2027 general elections.
At the same event, Otunba Olayinka Braimoh, who previously ran for governor in Kogi State under the Action Alliance, formally joined the ADC on Saturday.
Lawal accused the APC of suffering from “pure delusion,” claiming the party’s primary strategy is to predetermine and manipulate election results. He promised that Nigerians would unite with the ADC to “frustrate any criminal manipulation” of the 2027 polls.
However, the former SGF cautioned that the ADC would be selective about which politicians defecting from other parties it accepts. He warned against allowing new members to introduce corrupt and undemocratic behaviors from their previous parties that could undermine the ADC’s principles.
He characterized the ADC as a movement of patriots and visionaries who are dissatisfied with the nation’s trajectory under the leadership of the APC and PDP. Lawal stated that Nigeria is at a critical juncture, and the ADC provides a chance for citizens to “make a U-turn, recalibrate, and redirect our governance toward a progressive, people-centric system.”
