Dena Lu, a Filipina golfer, was the undisputed star of the day at the Easter Fiesta and First Quarter 2026 Ladies Medal Kitty. Her outstanding net score of 62 earned her both the Best Net prize and the title of overall Medal winner. Lu had a consistent pace from the first holes, avoiding costly errors that frequently ruin promising rounds. Her performance stood out for its balance with good drives, controlled approach shots, and clutch putting when it mattered most, even if other competitors displayed flashes of brilliance. She had done enough by the end to set herself apart from 109 other golfers. However, there was fierce competition in the Ladies division, where P.C. Ajayi secured the Runner-Up spot with a score of 67, while N. Nwobodo finished second with a net score of 69. C. Adakole demonstrated the overall caliber of play by earning the highest gross score in the category.

Strong performances were also generated by other divisions. EI Essang won Best Net with 61 in the men’s regular category (15–28), surpassing S. Cheruity (62) and EO Alade (63). A. Egwudale led the veteran category with a net score of 60, while Ene Francis led the women’s category with a score of 66. After both players returned 64, MM Haruna defeated Abubakar Umar on countback in the men’s guest category.Following her victory, Lu spoke about how thrilled and proud she was of her accomplishment.
“I was ready for this. While attending a golf academy in Portugal last month, I promised myself that I would return to Nigeria with greater self-assurance. That I was able to accomplish this makes me very happy.
However, this isn’t my first victory. I’ve previously won both here at GEJ and in Kano. This makes it my third victory overall, which excites me much.
“I’m originally from the Philippines, but I consider myself Naija because I’ve lived in Nigeria for more than ten years.”It’s enjoyable because of the laid-back vibe and lack of seriousness. I really like playing here,” she remarked. Similarly, Miss Sarah Fabuyi, Acting Lady Captain, emphasized the importance of the occasion and the great attendance. In addition to the First Quarter 2026 Ladies Medal, we are honoring our Easter Fiesta Kitty. This event is about more than just Easter; it’s about bringing together local and distant golfers to play in fair circumstances, make friends, and have fun. Golf is competitive, as we all know, and we celebrate each other. As usual, you can’t anticipate the winners because golf is a fair game. The fact that the results collation process was carried out fairly and openly makes us especially happy. In the future, this will be our first quarter event in 2026. We anticipate building on this trend and are already preparing for the second quarter Ladies Medal in June or July,” she stated.
