Kidnappers of 28 travelers in Plateau State have reportedly issued a 24-hour ultimatum for their families to pay a ransom of N1.5 million per person or face their execution. The victims, consisting of men, women, and children, were abducted on December 21st in the Zak community of Wase Local Government Area while on their way to a religious event. Family members have expressed their inability to pay, citing their status as poor farmers, but the gunmen have refused to lower their demands. One relative, Ibrahim Musa, suggested that the kidnappers grew angry after Wase LGA Chairman Muhammed Hamisu ordered security forces to rescue the captives. In response to that mandate, DSP Alfred Alabo confirmed that a joint team of soldiers and police, supported by helicopters, has been deployed to the area. Musa noted that the aerial search efforts appeared to have provoked the kidnappers into issuing the death threat. The families are now appealing to the government for urgent assistance, stating they cannot raise the required funds within the given timeframe.
