Yesterday, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), a division of the Federal Government, announced that it had reviewed over 215 gas utilization projects throughout Nigeria and identified 70 high-impact projects with a combined potential demand of 15 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day (bscf/d). These projects have the potential to draw in over $20 billion in new investments, generate thousands of jobs, and stimulate industrial growth across the country. Engineer Farouk Ahmed, the NMDPRA’s Authority Chief Executive, gave a speech at the Gas Utilization Unlock Validation Series Opening Session in Lagos as part of the Decade of Gas Initiative.”Revitalizing the Nigerian Petroleum Exploration and Production: Strategies for Energy Security and Sustainable Development” was the theme of the 43rd Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) Annual International Conference & Exhibition, which was taking place in the state.According to Daily Trust, the Federal Government of Nigeria announced a ten-year plan in 2020 to utilize the country’s vast natural gas reserves, which are projected to be worth about 210.54 trillion cubic feet (TCF). Nigeria has pledged to boost both production and consumption over the course of the decade. The plan predicts that gas production will increase by more than 50% over the course of the decade.
