The Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN) stated it is actively working to eliminate reliance on imported solar panels, following the Federal Government’s push to end their importation.
REAN President Ayo Ademilua made the comment at a press conference held during the Renewable Energy Conference 2025 in Abuja, themed “Stronger Together: Advancing Energy Access Through Policy, Finance, and Inclusion.”
DAILY POST recalls that the Federal Government announced earlier this year its intention to support domestic solar panel manufacturing by banning the product’s importation.
The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Power, highlighted Nigeria’s capability to produce solar panels locally.
Addressing the energy deficit, the REAN President informed reporters that the association is striving to “promote local manufacturing capability to reduce dependency on imports.”
He explained, “with the ongoing discussions around the proposed solar importation ban, REAN is leading efforts to promote local manufacturing capability, reduce dependency on imports, attract investment and ensure that any policy measures enable, rather than hinder, industry growth.”
He added that “Strengthening local content is crucial for job creation and long-term energy security.”
Meanwhile, to address unprofessional solar installation practices, the association has launched the “REAN Safer Solar Campaign” to “promote technical competence, safety, and best practices across the sector.”
REAN stated that this initiative helps consumers identify qualified installers while simultaneously supporting skill development for the country’s renewable energy workforce.
The association reaffirmed its dedication to standardization, safety, and, most importantly, consumer protection.
DAILY POST reports that the 2025 conference in the nation’s capital included keynote speeches from stakeholders, such as the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and others.
The event also featured discussions on policy, technical sessions, research presentations, and exhibitions by top innovators.
