Victor Osimhen, a striker for Galatasaray, created history on Wednesday following his team’s 3-0 victory over Ajax in the UEFA Champions League. At the Johan Cruijff ArenA, the Nigerian international helped Galatasaray overcome Ajax with a hat-trick. Following a cross from Leroy Sané, the 26-year-old headed the first goal for the visitors in the 59th minute.Seven minutes later, Osimhen’s penalty kick doubled Galatasaray’s lead. After scoring once again from the penalty in the 78th minute, the former Napoli forward completed his hat-trick. After scoring against Liverpool (1) and Bodo/Glimt (2) in recent weeks, Osimhen currently has six goals in the Champions League. Osimhen, however, became the first player in Galatasaray’s history to score two goals in two straight Champions League games, according to Opta. His hat-trick against Ajax is the first time a Galatasaray player has scored three goals in a European competition since Burak Yılmaz did it against Cluj in 2012.Additionally, Osimhen’s hat-trick makes him the first Nigerian player to score three goals in the Champions League since Maccabi Haifa’s 3-0 victory over Olympiacos in 2002 thanks to Yakubu Ayegbeni.
