Former Kano State Governor and ex-APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, advised the current Governor Abba Yusuf administration to use the security methods his government employed (2015-2023) to tackle growing insecurity in border communities.
Ganduje noted his past administration’s security plan included strengthening local vigilante groups, multi-level community policing, effective intelligence sharing, close cooperation with security forces, and crime prevention linked to development.
He stated these methods successfully reduced rural banditry and urban crime, maintaining relative stability in the state.
In a statement issued by Muhammad Garba, his former Chief of Staff and ex-Commissioner for Information, Ganduje expressed alarm over the “worrisome” security situation in Kano.
He described recent attacks in Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas, which resulted in three deaths and the kidnapping of several women and children, as “tragic, painful, and deeply distressing.”
Ganduje offered sympathy to the affected families and residents, emphasizing that the trauma from the attacks needs quick, joint action.
He urged the Kano State government to implement proactive, intelligence-led, and community-focused security measures to stop future incidents.
The former APC chairman also commended Niger, Kwara, Kebbi, and other states for their handling of similar security issues, highlighting their successful interventions, inter-agency teamwork, and strong community involvement.
He called on the affected communities to stay calm but alert, work with security agencies, and provide information promptly to prevent more attacks.
Ganduje stressed that defeating insecurity requires the shared effort of citizens, traditional rulers, government bodies, and security agencies.
