Hajiya Zainab Idris, the Wife of the Kebbi State Governor, urged parents not to take their children out of school following the recent kidnapping of 24 students from Government Comprehensive Girls Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.
Speaking at the reunification ceremony at Government House in Birnin-Kebbi, the first lady expressed relief that the girls were unharmed during their nine days in captivity. She confirmed the students received medical checks and insisted that parents must allow them to resume their education.
Hajiya Zainab Idris said, “You must not deny them education because of this incident. They must go back. Government is already putting in place necessary measures for their safety.”
She added that the people of Kebbi had been anxious since the abduction and commended the quick rescue within one week.
Governor Nasir Idris called the kidnapping a deeply upsetting event for parents, the state, and his administration. He praised the security personnel for their rapid action, which prevented more trauma, and affirmed the state’s dedication to student safety.
The students, who were kidnapped on Monday, November 17, were rescued on Tuesday from the Bagega forest in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State and reunited with their parents at the Government House on Wednesday by the Governor and his wife.
Halimatu Bande, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, described the incident as a difficult period for the state and thanked security agencies and residents for helping with the rescue.
Parents of the rescued students also expressed thanks to Governor Idris, security agencies, religious leaders, and community volunteers for their efforts in ensuring the safe return of their children.
