The Imo State government has ordered the closure of a hotel and a mortuary, following allegations that both properties were being used to facilitate kidnapping operations and the illegal harvesting of human organs.
This development was confirmed on Sunday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Okoye Henry, in a statement shared on the Police Command’s X (formerly Twitter) handle.
Henry explained that the operation was initiated based on reliable intelligence concerning a suspected criminal named Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, who is currently evading arrest.
The Police Command stated that this action is part of an intensive, ongoing effort led by the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, in coordination with other security agencies, to combat kidnapping and violent crimes along the Owerri–Aba Expressway.
During the security inspection, authorities found that a hotel and a private mortuary owned by the suspect were allegedly utilized by kidnappers and violent criminals.
“At the mortuary, authorities discovered several decomposed and mutilated bodies being kept in unsanitary conditions,” which, according to the statement, “raised suspicions of illicit organ-harvesting activities.”
Consequently, acting on the State Government’s directive, both the hotel and the mortuary were officially sealed. Furthermore, a search of the suspect’s residence was conducted, leading to the recovery of “crucial exhibits.”
