According to REA Managing Director Abba Abubakar Aliyu, who revealed the numbers during a media briefing in Kano, the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) deployed more than 200 mini-grids across underprivileged communities nationwide in 2025, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to expand electricity access. The deployments were carried out under the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) between January and December 2025.According to Aliyu, the NEP’s completion is a significant step in enhancing the sustainability and dependability of the power supply, especially in off-grid and rural areas. He pointed out that the agency saw significant advancements in the deployment of renewable energy throughout the year, fueled by a combination of recently approved and ongoing projects. The $750 million Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-Up (DARES) initiative, which President Bola Ahmed Tinubu just approved, is crucial to this advancement.
