After completing an amazing career grand slam with an emotional triumph at the 2025 Masters, Rory McIlroy is aiming for an even more uncommon accomplishment this year: winning the Augusta National again.
When the 90th Masters begins play on Thursday, the 36-year-old from Northern Ireland hopes to join Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Nick Faldo as the only golfers to win back-to-back green jackets.
I’d love to defend the Masters event because I know it’s a really uncommon accomplishment. McIlroy remarked.
“I think that having won once will make it a little easier for me to win again.”

When McIlroy collapsed in April of last year after winning the Masters in a playoff match against Justin Rose, breaking a ten-year major win drought, it was an iconic moment.
Along with Nicklaus, Woods, Gary Player, Ben Hogan, and Gene Sarazen, McIlroy became a member of the career grand slam group.
American Scheffler, a two-time Masters champion, won the PGA Championship and British Open last year in addition to the American Express title in January.
Scheffler is focusing on the mental side of his game after withdrawing from the Houston Open last month due to his and his wife’s impending second child.
After entering a not guilty plea to DUI charges related to a car accident on March 27, 15-time major winner Tiger Woods would not be present.
