A well-known chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Wale Oriade, was abducted by gunmen in Ibadan on Wednesday evening.
The kidnapping took place at approximately 7:06 p.m. on December 3, 2025, at the PJ Square Shopping Complex, situated next to the NNPC station at Elewure, Iyana Ajanla, Akala Express, New Garage area of the Oyo State capital, where Oriade has an office.
According to people who witnessed the event, the attackers arrived in a blue Micra car occupied by two individuals: a driver and an armed assailant.
The gunman reportedly forcibly grabbed Oriade and pushed him into the waiting vehicle before they drove away quickly.
The speed and coordinated nature of the operation has increased fear among residents and within the state’s political community.
Oriade was taken to an unknown place, and as of the time this news was reported, his family and associates had not been contacted. No ransom demand has been issued.
In a statement jointly signed by Mojeed Olaoya, APC Oyo South Senatorial Chairman, and John Aremu, the State Youth Leader, the party confirmed the abduction and requested urgent assistance from the Nigeria Police Force.
The party urged security agencies to immediately begin an intelligence-led rescue mission to ensure Oriade’s safe return.
The statement read: “A timely rescue will not only bring relief to Oriade’s family but also reassure the people of Oyo State that the Police Command remains proactive and committed to the protection of lives and property.”
The Oyo APC also recognized the Police Command’s efforts to maintain public order and called for increased vigilance during this serious period.
