Bashir Ahmad, who served as an aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, caused reactions on Thursday after he stated that the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is a good person, but that the individuals surrounding him will prevent him from achieving his ambition.
In a post shared on his X account, Ahmad suggested that if Obi’s supporters were sincerely interested in his success, they should advise him to drop his bid for the 2027 presidential election and instead support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Ahmad wrote, “Peter is a good person, but the people around him will never allow him to achieve his dream.”
He criticized what he called “reckless content” shared by Obi’s associates on social media, implying that their public behavior might reflect even more problematic private advice.
He added, “With this reckless content you post publicly, one can only imagine the kind of things you tell him privately.”
Ahmad further wrote, “If you genuinely want him to succeed, advise him to sacrifice today so that others can sacrifice for him tomorrow. Tell him to come and join us; let President Tinubu complete his mandate in 2031, and then the future remains open for everyone.”
His remarks are made as key political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, are reportedly planning to prevent Tinubu from securing a second term.
