In May 2026, the Kano State Fire Service reported 58 fire incidents and 13 fatalities around the state.
ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the Kano State Fire Service’s public relations officer, made this announcement on Monday.
The statement claims that Alhaji Sani Anas, the Director of the Service, revealed this while providing an overview of the agency’s monthly operational activity.
He claims that between May 1 and May 31, the Service handled 80 emergency calls, including false alarms, rescue operations, and fire outbreaks.
“Of the total calls received, 58 were fire incidents, 15 were rescue operations, and seven were false alarms,” he stated.
The Director went on to say that the 13 fatalities were caused by a variety of circumstances, such as fire outbreaks, traffic accidents, and situations involving ponds and wells.
He pointed out that the Service was able to rescue a number of lives during that time, despite the casualties.
“During our rescue operations throughout the state, we successfully saved 34 lives,” he declared.

To lower the number of occurrences, Alhaji Anas advised locals to take fire safety seriously and manage fire-related activities carefully.
“To prevent preventable disasters, we are urging members of the public to adopt proper fire safety measures,” he stated.
He gave assurances that the Kano State Fire Service is still dedicated to safeguarding people and property by acting quickly, raising public awareness, and taking preventative action.
