In an effort to improve Nigeria’s revenue allocation system, a delegation from the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), headed by Adamu Fanda, the Federal Commissioner for Kano State, started a data verification operation in Taraba state on Monday.
Speaking during the tour, Fanda clarified that the exercise was intended to produce precise and current data that will direct the allocation of funds across the nation’s states and local governments. He pointed out that Nigeria’s income distribution is based on particular indicators meant to guarantee equity and justice in the distribution of the country’s resources.
He did, however, note that Nigeria’s socioeconomic environment has changed dramatically over time, pointing to population increase, the expansion of infrastructure, and the widening of development disparities as important aspects that call for a reassessment of the available statistics.
He claims that the existing revenue allocation formula has advanced to a point where it is essential to verify the authenticity and integrity of the data that will support allocations in the future.
In order to guarantee thorough data verification that takes into account current circumstances, Fanda continued, the delegation would collaborate closely with pertinent ministries, departments, agencies, and local authorities throughout their visit.
Additionally, he urged the state government to assist and collaborate, stressing that the exercise’s results will have significant ramifications for the state and the country.
Governor Kefas responded by reiterating the state government’s commitment to supporting the exercise, which includes giving the visiting team sufficient security and hospitality.
In order to increase overall efficacy, he also suggested that the commission hold training sessions and workshops to educate stakeholders about its responsibilities and make clear what is expected of states and local government entities.
In order to confirm important information for the exercise, the delegation is also anticipated to interact with important stakeholders throughout the state.
