INEC broadens the list of candidates for the Nasarawa North byelection

The final list of candidates for the upcoming Nasarawa North Senatorial District bye-election has been updated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), bringing the total number of candidates up from four to six.

Prior to the June 20, 2026 bye-election, the electoral umpire released a revised list that now includes candidates from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who were not included in the previous publication.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and National New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) were represented by just four candidates on INEC’s initial final list, as previously reported by DAILY POST.

But according to the most recent list our correspondent saw, Duba Shaya Dodo of the NDC and Alaku Mohammed Steve Ahmadu of the ADC have joined the contest, making a total of six contenders.

INEC has approved the following candidates for the election:

Steve Ahmadu Alaku Mohammed (ADC)

Envu-Uza Hallu Danladi (APC)

Labaran Maku (LP)

Shaya Dodo Duba (NDC)

Araneshi, John Paul (NNPP)

Ombugadu, Emmanuel David (PDP)

The five local government areas that comprise the senatorial district will participate in the Nasarawa North Senatorial bye-election on June 20, 2026.
