The authorities in the Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State have imposed a curfew running from dusk until dawn following rising security concerns within the council. This curfew, which is in effect from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., commenced on December 2 and will remain enforced until it is officially lifted. Furthermore, the council announced that 24-hour security surveillance and patrols will be carried out across all communities. The Chairman of Omala LGA, Edibo Peter Mark, issued a statement explaining that this decision forms part of crucial steps taken to protect local lives and property. To strengthen safety provisions, Mark directed security agencies to intensify checks at all entry points. He specified that “All border routes must undergo strict stop-and-search operations with the Joint Task Force fully deployed.” The council has also placed restrictions on religious activities. The chairman clarified that “All public gatherings, including Moulud, Christian vigils, and similar programmes, are suspended until further notice.” He added that festival fireworks are prohibited, and churches and mosques must keep their worship times brief, noting that “Sunday services and mosque prayers should be conducted quickly and closed on time.” Mark appealed to the inhabitants to adhere to the order and collaborate with security agencies, stressing that public cooperation is necessary to restore tranquility throughout the council area.
