In the Kurmin Wali hamlet, Kajuru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, dozens of worshippers who were kidnapped from two churches have described their terrifying ordeal in the bandit’s lair. While attending a local church service on January 18, 2026, at around nine in the morning, the victims were abducted. After being held captive for two weeks, they were freed on Thursday. Hosea Madami, one of the rescued captives, told Daily Trust that they endured ongoing torture. In the jungle, we suffered greatly. They struck my hands and head. They gave us very little food in our hands and fed us like dogs. The food had no taste since there was no salt, he claimed. They had to hike in difficult conditions for several days, Madami continued. We strolled in the forest for over six days. They continued to strike us with sticks. We really did suffer a lot,” he remarked. One of the most unpleasant parts of their captivity, according to another victim, Rebecca Josiah, was hunger.During the two weeks I spent in the wilderness, I only had four meals. They placed kunu and occasionally tuwo in our palms, she said. She clarified that even the meager amount of food offered was challenging to handle.
