Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State announced a state of emergency on infrastructure and human services due to increasing problems risking public well-being and safety.
A statement from the Secretary to the State Government’s office on Friday indicated the declaration aims to speed up necessary improvements in key state sectors.
To manage the emergency, the Governor approved a 24-month Emergency Implementation Committee, EIC, tasked with coordinating all measures during this period.
The announcement stated that Danladi Baido Tijos will chair the committee, which includes members from crucial ministries and state agencies.
The members listed are the State Attorney-General and Commissioners for Justice, Health, Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Basic Education, Water Resources, Agriculture and Food Security.
Other members include Commissioners for Energy and Economic Development, Environment and Climate Change, Works & Infrastructure, the Chairman of the State Planning Commission, the State Auditor-General, and the Director-General, Bureau for Public Procurement.
In a separate move, the state government also announced the creation and renaming of several ministries as part of an administrative restructuring approved by the Governor.
A statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Gebon Timothy Kataps, noted the changes involve establishing new ministries and renaming old ones to better match their functions.
The Ministry of Social Development and Human Service will now replace the former Ministry of Cooperatives & Poverty Alleviation.
Additionally, two new ministries were created: the Ministry of Nursery and Basic Education, and the Ministry of Secondary, Vocational and Skill Education.
The Ministry of Social Justice will now be replaced by the Ministry of Social Justice and Re-Integration.
