The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied claims that it imposed specific requirements on Governor Agbu Kefas before his anticipated departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to their party.
Briefing journalists in Jalingo on Wednesday, Aaron Atmas, the APC State spokesperson, stated that the governor’s choice to join the party was entirely voluntary and without any prerequisites.
Atmas said: “APC has not established any demands before agreeing to the governor’s entry. When he becomes a member, we are certain he will administer fairness to all types of people. He is joining us without any difficulties or conflicts.”
The spokesperson explained that Governor Kefas’ action is primarily intended to foster unity among political stakeholders and promote development in Taraba State.
He added: “The main objective he is calling for is unity so that, with one collective voice, we can advance Taraba State.”
Atmas also described the governor’s recent gatherings with important APC members as a move to clarify misunderstandings and speculations surrounding his transfer.
He said: “The gathering was convened to shift from unverified stories to genuine facts. He has confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has entrusted him to our party’s national chairman.”
An official event to formally welcome Governor Kefas into the APC, as announced by the party, is expected in the upcoming weeks.
Atmas further asserted that there is currently “no active opposition” in the state, as key APC stakeholders have given their approval for the governor’s joining.
He concluded: “We are going to proceed in a democratic manner. The governor has already demonstrated that he can collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds and has promised to bring harmony to the state’s politics.”
