Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a popular Islamic scholar, on Thursday, issued a caution against permitting President Donald Trump of the United States (US) to meddle in the affairs of Nigeria.
Gumi stated that it is disgraceful and morally offensive to allow Trump to intervene in Nigeria’s matters.
He made this comment against the backdrop of Trump threatening military action against Nigeria in response to the killing of Christians.
Trump had previously threatened to invade Nigeria and eliminate the Islamic terrorists responsible for killing Christians.
The Islamic scholar wrote in a post on Facebook: “I was inclined to believe that due to the difference between the North and South in Western education, which is, however, diminishing, the South would be more patriotic, possessing no feelings of subservience or a slave mentality towards the West.”
“Still, I was bitterly let down by certain prominent recent responses to Trump’s threats against our national sovereignty.”
“Disagreements between communities, conflicts between herders and farmers, and clashes between original inhabitants versus new residents are all outcomes of insufficient financial resources, poor learning, moral corruption, and inefficient governance, not religious differences.”
“However, extending an invitation to an untruthful person, someone who supports mass killing, a bigot, a white supremacist, a former colonist to intervene specifically on the side of Christians is unpatriotic, humiliating, and repugnant.”
“Are they unable to see that the conflict will take on a completely different nature?”
“Is it their religious doctrine that makes them so innocent and full of hatred? Regrettably, the shared trait of these unpatriotic individuals is fear and dislike of Islam.”
“Nevertheless, the majority of Christians are decent individuals living peacefully with their fellow Muslim citizens. May Allah safeguard all of us from the Antichrist (Dajjal—the liar). Amen.”
