During a meeting with 484 local government councillors from the 44 LGAs at the Kano Government House on Sunday, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State reaffirmed his commitment to Rabiu Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), by promising that his supporters would follow his political path. According to Naija News, Yusuf also assured Kwankwaso that his supporters would support him in all political endeavors.
The governor said in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa: “You are the government’s eyes and ears on the ground. Go back to your wards, hear what people have to say, and communicate their most urgent requirements.
“After that, we’ll do something.” By recognizing pressing community needs that require immediate attention, the governor further exhorted the council members to serve as a conduit between the government and the people.
“ He noted that the state has allocated nearly ₦5 billion for ward-level projects aimed at addressing issues such as classrooms, drainage, and other critical community infrastructure challenges.
Yusuf also emphasised the necessity of sincerity, transparency, and commitment to ensure that funds are utilised for projects that have a direct impact on the populace.
Basemedia news reports that this announcement comes in the wake of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Following the defection of former PDP presidential running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, to the APC, there are assertions that additional members of the opposition party may also defect to the ruling party.
