Arsène Wenger, ex-coach of Arsenal, stated that the team holds an “advantage” over Paris Saint-Germain before their Champions League semi-final second leg on Wednesday.
As per Wenger, the Gunners do not face any “mental problem.”
Last Tuesday, PSG triumphed over Mikel Arteta’s team at the Emirates, winning the first leg of the tie 1-0.
In the 4th minute, Ousmane Dembélé scored the game’s sole goal, quieting the home fans.
Arsenal had opportunities to equalize, but Gianluigi Donnarumma thwarted their attempts, saving shots from Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard around the half-time mark.
Bradley Barcola and Gonçalo Ramos both spurned chances of their own to increase the deficit in the closing stages.
The Ligue 1 champions will probably be without Dembélé in the second leg. The French winger was absent from the squad during their earlier season defeat to Arsenal, which ended 2-0.
Wenger is of the opinion that it would be “against the DNA” of PSG to merely defend their advantage.
He stated to beIN Sports: “What is interesting in the Champions League, when you go away and home, is that every time before you start the game in the second leg, you have a mental problem to resolve.
“The benefit for Arsenal is that the mental issue is straightforward. They just need to go out, play, and win.
“The psychological challenge for PSG is: should we aim to win this match, or should we focus on safeguarding our lead and encouraging them to counter-attack? It’s crucial to communicate this clearly to the team.”
