Before the upcoming local government elections in Lagos State, a political advocacy group called Eti-Osa Collective has called for the replacement of Shamsideen Agunbiade, the chairmanship candidate for Eti-Osa Local Government Area for the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing alleged discrepancies in his age records.
The group’s Secretary-General, Opeyemi Onifade, signed a press release on Tuesday outlining the group’s stance.
Any anomaly in a candidate’s personal information, particularly their age, could result in disqualification or legal issues, the statement said, and it urged the APC to take immediate action to prevent any conflicts after the election.
According to the group, Agunbiade’s different ages across different electoral cycles raise serious questions. He reportedly claimed to be 33 years old during his time as Councillor for Ward E from 2004 to 2007. During his service as Vice Chairman and Supervisor for Environment between 2017 and 2021, he allegedly stated his age as 46.
However, the group highlighted a new discrepancy in 2025, noting that Agunbiade now lists his age as 49, just eight years after his previous declaration of being 46.
In their statement, the group stated, “These disparities are concerning and compromise the integrity of our democratic process.”
Agunbiade’s Lagos State University diploma is allegedly being questioned, according to the Eti-Osa Collective, which has expressed doubts about the legitimacy of his academic credentials.
The group also stated that in order to avoid potential disqualification or prosecution, the party must conduct an investigation and take corrective action prior to the election.
