According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEM), coordinated terrorist attacks on three communities in Sokoto State’s Tangaza Local Government Area resulted in the deaths of 15 individuals and the displacement of over 500 homes.
Officials from the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and NEMA conducted a combined on-the-spot inspection on Friday, which preceded the confirmation.
The authorities said the strikes, which targeted the villages of Kwalajiya, Talba, and Fasnaki, took place on Wednesday at approximately 2:05 p.m. According to reports, the attack started as many locals were at work on their farms.
Witnesses reported that during the rampage, the attackers, who were thought to be members of the Lakurawa terror group, burned homes, grocery stores, and small businesses in addition to robbing establishments.
“Hundreds were displaced and 15 people were killed in the attack,” NEMA said. “Some survivors have fled to Ayama, a nearby settlement, while others have sought safety at Sardaunan Tangaza Model School in Tangaza town.”
More than 500 households were impacted, according to the organization, and many families fled their homes and farms in fear of more violence.
