Mustapha Sule Lamido, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2023 candidate for governor of Jigawa State, has made it through the party’s screening process in advance of the 2027 election.
In advance of the party’s May 21 governorship primary, Lamido was approved by the PDP screening committee in Abuja on Thursday.
He was chosen as the PDP’s flag bearer to run against All Progressives Congress (APC) incumbent governor Umar Namadi in the 2027 general election after emerging as the sole candidate vetted for the governorship ticket in Jigawa State.
Following the screening process, Mustapha Lamido stated that he decided to run because he wanted to improve the state’s political system and meet the requirements of the populace.
He also voiced alarm about the growing trend of cross-party political defections, which he linked to certain political actors’ lack of ideological commitment.
He claims that the younger generation is committed to using deliberate leadership and hard work to change the nation’s political structure.
According to Lamido, the PDP is the only opposition party with powerful ideals that can meet the needs of regular Nigerians.
He went on to say that the party received more than 400,000 votes in the last election and that he was confident the PDP would do much better in the 2027 polls.
