Former Emuoha Local Government Area Chairman Chidi Lloyd, a close supporter of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, has questioned the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s sincerity in bringing about peace in the state’s continuing conflict.
Lloyd claims that Fubara has not yet met crucial requirements that Wike maintains are required for true reconciliation.
The former chairman made the point that reconciliation would be pointless without justice while speaking in Port Harcourt.
Among the requirements he named were Fubara’s public apology to members of the State House of Assembly, former chairmen of local governments, senior statesmen, and Sergeant Awuse, the immediate past chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers.
He said, “People are confused thinking only the minister was wounded in this political crisis, but many others—former council chairmen and campaign coordinators for Fubara—are also aggrieved. “I’m aggrieved, too. So, let us not seek peace in the graveyard; let us seek genuine peace.”
Highlighting Fubara’s alleged lack of commitment, Lloyd recalled an eight-point peace agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu during the height of the political conflict, which Fubara reportedly reneged on.
None of Fubara’s fans have expressed regret for their acts as of yet.
“How can peace be trusted if Governor Fubara can break agreements made in front of the president? To the Assembly members whose paychecks were withheld for two years, he deserves an apology. “Pursuit of peace is necessary; it is not just about the Minister,” he continued.
