Mahdi Shehu calls for the removal of new tax reforms and commends Tinubu for stopping ADC promotion.

Political analyst Mahdi Shehu has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for allegedly withdrawing a contentious promotion for his Aide-de-Camp. Sharing his thoughts on Wednesday via social media, Shehu characterized the reversal as a positive sign that the president is receptive to advice, particularly following warnings from retired military officials that such a unilateral promotion could disrupt military order. While acknowledging this decision, Shehu encouraged the president to apply the same discretion by canceling the new tax policies scheduled for January 1, 2026. He argued that citizens have been burdened by numerous taxes since the administration began without receiving significant benefits, claiming that public funds appear to be directed toward the luxury of political elites rather than the public good. Describing the tax reforms as harmful and undemocratic, Shehu warned that they threaten the stability of families and businesses. He concluded that continuing with the implementation would be a mistake and noted that those advising the president to move forward with the tax laws are acting against the interests of both the administration and the nation.
