Zoe Chibuike Okoronkwo successfully retained his featherweight title by securing a technical knockout victory over challenger Nwambeke Ndubuisi during the “Enyimba 2025” Abia State Boxing Championship. Other notable results included Israel Obinna Ogbodo’s win against Udeh Chibuike and Chinaza Ikechukwu Okoronkwo’s successful lightweight title defense via a unanimous decision against Ede Emmanuel Peter. During the event at Aba Sports Club, Nwaobilor Ananaba, the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, emphasized that Governor Alex Otti’s administration is focused on enhancing local sports to identify and nurture new talent. Rafiu Ladipo, President of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, highlighted boxing’s role in national unity and called for increased governmental support for the sport. Additionally, Director of Sports Obioma George noted that this professional championship was a historic first for the state. The program also included the official presentation of a new boxing ring, which was donated to the state government by former local boxer Ikechukwu Okoronkwo.
