Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed satisfaction with the positive impact of his administration’s interventions to support the populace under the ongoing Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery
project.
Makinde stated that, in contrast to other states, his administration will continue to support the most vulnerable and impoverished people in all local government areas of Oyo State, according to Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information. This pledge is a direct reaction to the difficulties encountered after the fuel subsidy was eliminated.
In a statement sent to reporters in Ibadan on Wednesday, the commissioner revealed these details.
“Operational routes for the 55 buses currently transporting commuters have increased from 31 to 39, with over 30,000 commuters benefiting from a 50 per cent reduction in fare daily. Additionally, the physically handicapped, school students, the elderly, and civil personnel continue to enjoy free transport services,” Oyelade said.
He continued, “This was one of the resolutions at the Tuesday Executive Council meeting.”
Oyelade also disclosed that the governor has given his approval to purchase fifty more luxury buses to add to the current fleet of fifty-five.
He said, “The 50 additional buses will be used in advance of the state’s 50th anniversary celebrations next year.”
The Commissioner added that the Council had approved additional funding for MSMEs and food security, including low-interest loans for small businesses, traders, and artisans, credit funds for the Oyo State Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project (YEAP), and subsidized tractor facilities. The total of these projects is ₦4,787,468,000.
“To enhance efficiency within the civil service, the Council approved Virtual Digital and Soft Skills Training for 2,175 civil servants at a cost of ₦367,540,000,” Oyelade stated.
He added that the Council had authorized a cost analysis of two current projects, totaling ₦8,536,415,000: the erection of contemporary monumental structures at Dr. Omololu Olunloyo Park and the bus terminal developments at Iwo Road, New Ife Road, Challenge, and Ojoo.
Oyelade revealed that the Council had approved further talks between the military and the government to take over the Old Oyo National Park in order to stop illegal mining and terrorist operations in the enclave.
