Ekperikpe Ekpo, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), has urged for regional cooperation and innovation to establish a robust African gas economy.
While addressing the Africa Gas Innovation Summit (AGIS) 2025 in Abuja, Ekpo stated that Africa needs to tackle infrastructure and policy challenges in order to fully utilize its gas resources.
He said Nigeria’s “Decade of Gas” initiative under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda was focused on expanding domestic gas use across power, transport, cooking, and industry with advanced infrastructure rolled out for LPG penetration programme and deepened supply reforms.
Ekpo stated that regional collaboration is necessary to supplement national efforts.
He mentioned the Nigeria-Morocco and Trans-Saharan pipelines as initiatives that need stable policies and robust political commitment.
Engr. Amina Danmadami, the Chairperson of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Council, stated that the summit was organized to promote collaboration and innovation throughout the gas sector.
She pointed out that Africa’s gas industry encountered difficulties such as infrastructure deficiencies and uncertain policies.
