The award given to his principal, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, will motivate him to do more for the advancement of sports in Nigeria, according to Alhaji Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate. The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) celebrated its 60th anniversary in Abuja on Friday, October 30, honoring notable Nigerians, including the senator from Kano North. In honor of his steadfast dedication to the advancement of sports in Nigeria, Senator Barau—who is also the creator and sponsor of Barau FC, a team in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL)—was given the Outstanding Lawmaker Award.Speaking on behalf of his principal at the auspicious event, Mudashir stated that the Deputy President of the Senate, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, is honored to be linked to Nigerian sports writers and will keep working with SWAN to promote the growth of sports in the nation. “I would like to thank the leadership and members of this association on behalf of the Deputy President of the Senate for this recognition. It would do more for sports, Nigerian youths, and the country as a whole, in line with His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.” On behalf of Senator Barau, Mudashir promptly deposited N2,000,000 into the SWAN account to support the association’s efforts to raise money for a suitable secretariat in Abuja.
