A rescued Nigerian-Libyan migrant, Mercy Olugbenga, hMercy Olugbenga, a Nigerian-Libyan migrant who was saved, has described her experience in the Arab nation.
In an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, Mercy revealed that she was receiving monthly blood transfusions and would be imprisoned for a year at her job.
“My mother was ill. My brother and I had to sell Aust because she had a kidney condition. No family exists anywhere. We have no choice because our entire family abandoned us.
“I had no idea that I was leaving. I didn’t know I was going until a day before. Someone told me that there are jobs in Libya. I didn’t give it a second thought. I’ll follow you, I said.
“At the time, I was unaware of any country with the name Libya. That day was the only time I heard it, so I thought, “Okay, let me follow.” That’s what I went through in Libya, along with other Africans and illegal migrants. We are disliked by those Arabs, who treated us like animals.
I spent a year in jail at my place of employment. Before leaving my room, they lock the door. Both the gate door and the house side door are locked.I was therefore stuck inside the house. However, I later learned that the mother I was initially tasked with caring for had health problems, including kidney transplants and other things. Therefore, they send a nurse home to transfuse my blood once a month during that time,” she explained.
