On Friday, Justice Binta Fatima Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja criticized and revoked Kogi State Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s ban.
On the basis that the senator’s six-month suspension was unconstitutional and deprives her constituents of proper representation, Justice Nyako later ordered the Senate to recall the suspended senator.
While rendering a decision in the lawsuit that Akpoti-Uduaghan had filed to contest the Senate’s six-month suspension of her, the judge issued the order.
According to Justice Nyako, the National Assembly has the authority to punish any dissident members, but this punishment shouldn’t be so severe as to deny her people representation.
According to Justice Nyako, the six-month ban was unwarranted since it went beyond the 180 days that the house is supposed to convene.
In the meantime, the court punished her N5 million after finding her guilty of contempt of court.
In addition, she will publicly apologize to the court on her Facebook page and in two national daily.
