Over the weekend, Nigeria celebrated twice as its junior handball teams won twice in the International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy Africa Zone 3 Phase in Lomé, Togo, with dominant performances on the regional stage.
In the final, the Nigeria Under-18 team defeated Ivory Coast 32–19 to win their category, demonstrating dominance and tactical superiority.
From the beginning to the end, the youthful team dominated the game, demonstrating their increasing stature as a powerful force in African youth handball.
Nigeria continued their winning streak in the Under-20 division with yet another outstanding performance, defeating Benin Republic 39–29 in the championship match.
They won with ease with to their skillful play and potent assault, earning the nation a second tournament crown.
With these triumphs, the Under-18 and Under-20 teams have won the IHF Trophy Africa Zone 3 Phase and secured the coveted status of future greats in the sport.
Their victories also guaranteed them a spot on the continental stage, where they would compete against the top African teams.
According to the National Sports Commission (NSC), the two victories demonstrate Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to the growth of grassroots handball as the Commission has envisioned.
