The Federal Government of Nigeria has taken custody of 147 Nigerian citizens who were repatriated from Libya under the Assisted Voluntary Return initiative, a program facilitated by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) issued a statement confirming that the returnees arrived at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on an Air Libya Airlines flight (registration \text{5A-BAE}) at approximately 5:15 p.m. on October 21, 2025.
NEMA reported that the group consisted of 100 adults (32 males and 68 females), 34 children (18 males and 16 females), and 13 infants (5 males and 8 females).
The operation was managed by NEMA’s Lagos Operations Office in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI). Officials from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) were present to conduct necessary biometric registration and documentation for proper identification and subsequent reintegration.
The statement concluded that, in alignment with the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safe, dignified, and humane return of its citizens, the individuals received essential support, including food, potable water, medical care, ambulance services, counseling, and logistical assistance to help with their transition back into the country.
