Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has received plaudits from Arsenal Women manager Renee Slegers after Brighton & Hove Albion held the Gunners to a 1-1 draw in a Women’s Super League match at the Broadfield Stadium on Wednesday thanks to the Nigerian’s dominant performance.
With one game remaining, the outcome confirmed Manchester City as league winners and extended Brighton’s winning streak to five WSL games, their longest since at least the 2011–12 campaign.
Nnadozie made a number of crucial saves, including a fingertip stop to deny Caitlin Foord and a quick reaction to keep out Lotte Wubben-Moy from a set-piece, but Frida Maanum’s equalizer in the second half gave Arsenal a share of the points despite Fuka Tsunoda giving Brighton the lead just before halftime.
Slegers recognized the Nigerian goalkeeper’s contribution and acknowledged that Arsenal had a hard time against Brighton.
Brighton consistently comes out with a lot of intensity and conviction.”You need a lot of detail and quality in execution because Nnadozie did well defending that space, even though there were opportunities in behind,” she remarked.
Nnadozie, who presently leads the WSL in save percentage at 75% and the goals prevented chart at 3.6, has had a historic season.Six clean sheets have been registered by her.
Her earlier heroics against Manchester City, where she made four saves and contributed fifteen ball recoveries to Brighton’s 3-2 triumph that postponed the eventual champions’ title celebrations, are followed by this performance.
On Sunday, Brighton and Nnadozie will play Liverpool in the FA Cup semifinal.
