Zamfara: In a new offensive, troops shoot down three bandits

In a series of operations carried out in the local government areas of Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji in Zamfara State, the Nigerian Army Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force (JTF) North West, Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), neutralised three terrorists.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the OPFY’s Media Information Officer, the troops documented the accomplishment while continuing their efforts to eliminate criminal elements and bring stability back to the area.

The statement stated, “Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma began a fighting patrol to Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji Local Government Areas of Zamfara State in the early hours of Thursday, May 7, 2026, with the aim of denying terrorists freedom of action within the general area.”

He claims that at Dumburum village, the troops came into contact with armed terrorists, sparking a fierce gunfight.

Danja continued, “The terrorists were forced to flee in disarray after suffering significant casualties as the troops overwhelmed them with superior firepower.”

He added that the troops had successfully neutralised three terrorists and found a cache of weapons and ammunition, which included an AK-47 rifle, a machine gun, a handgun made locally, seven rifle magazines, and 571 rounds of ammunition.

Danja stated, “It’s important to note that no casualties were reported among the troops during the operation.”

In order to further improve the ongoing operations meant to ensure a safe, secure, and prosperous Zamfara State and the North West region as a whole, he urged members of the general public to continue providing security agencies with timely and reliable information.
