Governor Umo Eno has received praise from the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees’ Akwa Ibom State chapter for paying outstanding arrears owing to local government employees throughout the state.
The union described the action as a significant indication of his administration’s dedication to workers’ welfare in a statement signed on Tuesday by Comrade Anestina Iweh, the State President of NULGE.
Additionally, the union thanked the governor for helping to resolve the long-standing debts, which it claimed had helped thousands of workers.
The announcement stated, “The successful payment of the outstanding arrears owed to local government workers is a significant demonstration of Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to the welfare of workers in Akwa Ibom State.”
The union also thanked the 31 local government chairmen for their contributions in guaranteeing the payment of the inherited arrears, as well as Frank Archibong, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uwemedimo Udo, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in the state, and Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area.
The statement claims that the state government’s and local governments’ joint efforts were crucial in fulfilling the unfulfilled responsibilities left by earlier administrations.
The statement read, “NULGE sincerely appreciates the ALGON Chairman, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and all 31 local government chairmen for their collective efforts in ensuring the settlement of these outstanding obligations.”
The union reported that the payment had improved morale throughout the local government department and restored worker confidence.
The statement went on, “This intervention has brought immense relief to local government employees across the state, restored confidence in government, and renewed the morale of workers who patiently awaited the settlement of the arrears.”
The union further stated that the payment demonstrated the government’s awareness of the difficulties workers confront and its commitment to enhancing their productivity and well-being.
The union claims that workers’ trust in Governor Eno’s leadership and other stakeholders who labored to make the exercise a reality has been further bolstered by the successful settlement of the arrears.
The statement went on, “NULGE is still dedicated to helping the ARISE Agenda be implemented and guarantees the government that local government employees will continue to be loyal, dedicated, and committed to effective service delivery at the grassroots level.”
In a drive to improve service delivery throughout Akwa Ibom State and fortify the local government system, the union characterized the discharge of the outstanding liabilities as another significant milestone.
After the arrears were paid, the union also reaffirmed its faith in the current administration, stating that local government employees are seen as essential to the state’s provision of public services.
