The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, was urged to be freed by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the highest Igbo sociocultural group.
Ohanaeze made the demand in Enugu on Thursday, claiming that not only the IPOB leader but all Igbos were imprisoned.
Kanu was found guilty of treason and is presently incarcerated in Sokoto.
Speaking at the Ohanaeze Imeobi and General Assembly at the Ohanaeze National Secretariat in Enugu, President General Chief Senator John Azuta-Mbata emphasized that Nnamdi Kanu must be freed before anyone discusses votes and warned that the government should not be duped by those who go around promising Igbo votes.I have informed the administration that Nnamdi Kanu and the entire Igboland are incarcerated. No Igbo man is pleased with Kanu’s imprisonment.
“Let our citizens cease misleading the federal government.
We are urging Tinubu’s administration to free Kanu. This is Ndi Igbo’s minimum demand.
“The establishment of more states is a positive trend. We’re glad that’s getting attention,” he said.
Additionally, Mbata denounced the stereotype of Igbo people.Nonetheless, he advised Ndigbo “to be law-abiding and to be sensitive to the sensibilities of their host communities wherever they may find themselves.”
“Your representation is important, diaspora people. Let the ideals we cherish in Igbo land be reflected in your behavior.
“Going to other people’s houses and acting as though our people don’t prioritize core values is incorrect for Igbo. What you take outdoors is what you have learned at home.
“We do not expect our people to travel to different parts of the world, turn lawless, and start engaging in a variety of customs that are unacceptable back home.”The Ohanaeze PG also emphasized the significance of Igbo culture and language, emphasizing that it is what unites the Ndigbo.
“Let’s spread the word about it in our communities, schools, and families.
“Our identity is found in our language. Let’s protect it for future prosperity. As everyone is aware, the UNESCO just released a report stating that the Igbo language is decreasing and endangered.
He said that by giving Igbo language and culture professorial chairs at four universities, Ohanaeze had risen to the occasion.
“We’ll do more.” Scholarships for Igbo language studies at universities will be given out.We are working to establish schools on our internet so that children of our diaspora members can learn Igbo online,” he added.
He emphasized that the people were watching and that history and prosperity will judge Igbo leaders by their deeds, thus he urged them to be fearless, visionary, and answerable to the people.
