As leaders and members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) gathered for a peaceful and solidarity rally on Tuesday to demand the prompt and safe release of the abductees, Oyo State Governor “Seyi Makinde” called on all levels of government to cooperate in order to address the current insecurity issues and rescue the students and teachers abducted recently in Yawota and Ahoro Esinele communities of Oriire Local Government Area.
He warned against trying to politicize the situation or assign blame, pointing out that it is a national distress.
He claims that because the offenders have shown a total contempt for humanity, the problem transcends politics and that everyone must cooperate to overcome it.
In an interview with union leaders, Governor Makinde urged students, employees, and educators throughout the state to maintain their faith in the government, promising to use every resource at his disposal to secure the return of the kidnapped children and their instructors.
“I have had the opportunity to engage with the leadership of NANS, NUT, and NLC,” he stated. This is a time of national sorrow, let me state that clearly. Playing politics and assigning blame is not appropriate at this time. Personally, I’m upset. My own father taught elementary school. In reality, he was a teacher at Ahoro Dada, which is less than fifteen kilometers away from the scene of this tragedy. I might not have been born if something similar had happened to my father, who lived there from 1959 to 1960. Therefore, it is not the time to claim that the governor or the local government should have handled this instead of the president.Wearen doesn’t deal with regular people, so this is the time to come together as one. For a moment, consider how someone could take a fellow human being and murder him. Is it a typical person? Thus, these individuals are not typical. All I can ask is that you, the instructors, employees, and students, have faith in your government. We’re trying our hardest. The governor went on to emphasize that the federal and state governments are working together to guarantee the successful rescue of the kidnapped individuals.
He also gave labor leaders, educators, and students the assurance that his administration will take into account recommendations meant to fortify the state’s security framework in the long run after the kidnappers were safely freed. “Over the past two weeks, I have been meeting with the security personnel deployed here, and I have heard from the Federal Government. Those who wish to see us separated should not be given oxygen. Right now, the best course of action is to unite and let the government handle this.
By God’s grace, I can assure you that our kids and their teachers will return without incident.
Almost nothing can be accomplished in an environment of insecurity. Nothing. Hospitals, schools, and businesses will all be grounded. We are aware of this, and the path will be difficult because we are not working with typical people. All I can say is that we will keep working hard, from the state to the presidency.
The governor said, “But in the interim, please, please, and please, it is time to unite, to confront the challenges that we have, and to bring back those children and our teachers.” The National President of NANS, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde; State Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Kayode Martins; and Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers’ Oyo State Wing, Comrade Hassan Fatai, all praised Governor Makinde’s efforts and urged him to step up efforts and guarantee the abductees’ prompt release.
They denounced the heinous act of abducting and murdering innocent people and labeled those responsible as the country’s enemies.
They urged the government to bolster the state’s security framework, particularly in schools, in order to create a safer and more conducive learning environment while offering their support to Governor Makinde and the administration.
