3,181 candidates will be screened for various positions prior to the 2027 general elections, according to the Interim National Working Committee (INWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.
The PDP faction claimed in a post on their social media accounts that the figures include candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives, Governorship, and President.
2,122 candidates for the state House of Assembly, 748 candidates for the House of Representatives, 198 candidates for the Senate, 112 candidates for the governorship, and one candidate for the presidency were listed by the party.
This was revealed by the party on Sunday, when it announced the formation of committees and appeal panels for the exercise.
A portion of the statement stated,
The Interim National Working Committee (INWC) hereby announces the publication of the underlisted members to serve as the Screening Committees and Screening Appeal Panels in accordance with the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Elections approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC) at its 104th Meeting,” the statement stated.
It further stated that the publication complied with the party’s rules and schedule for holding the general elections in 2027.
